In today's society, quitting has become more prevalent than ever. From quitting jobs to ending relationships, people often give up easily when faced with difficulties. However, the Bible offers guidance on the importance of perseverance and not quitting. It also highlights the need for us parents and mentors to teach our youth to develop a persevering spirit.
The Bible repeatedly emphasizes the importance of perseverance, stating that it produces character, hope, and spiritual maturity. Romans 5:3-4 states, "Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." Similarly, James 1:12 declares, "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him."
Moreover, the Bible also teaches that quitting can have dire consequences. In Hebrews 10:38-39, it states, "But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back. But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved." Thus, quitting can lead to destruction, while perseverance can lead to salvation.
As such, it is crucial for us parents, mentors, and youth group leaders to teach our kids about the importance of perseverance and not quitting. We must instill in them a resilient spirit that can withstand any of life's challenges that get thrown at us. One way to do this is by setting an example of perseverance ourselves, demonstrating to their children or mentees that quitting should never be an option.
Additionally, we can also teach the value of hard work and dedication. We can encourage children to work hard towards their goals, even when it becomes difficult or seemingly impossible. We can also highlight the benefits of developing a growth mindset, which can help children overcome obstacles and view failure as an opportunity for growth.
Over the last couple of months, we have had many challenges during our remodel and launch of our group, but we stood grounded in God’s word and his VISION for Y+W. We stayed the course and remained faithful, which we believe will be a great testimony and lesson to share with the group.
It is crucial for us parents and mentors to teach our youth about the value of perseverance and instill in them a spirit of resilience. By doing so, we can raise a generation of individuals who are equipped to face life's challenges and emerge victorious.
Blessings,
